VAZHATHANDU PORIYAL RECIPE / BANANA STEM STIR FRY preparation with step by step photos and quick video.The banana stem is rarely used in modern kitchens now a days. But it’s loaded with lot of health benefits and we should take banana stem at least weekly twice. Whoever would like to loose their weight , they must take more banana stem. The banana stem can cures the Kidney stone disease as well. This dish is used without any masala and kids would definitely like since its just have very mild spice.
VAZHATHANDU PORIYAL RECIPE / BANANA STEM STIR FRY
Ingredients
- Banana Stem (vazhathandu)– 1 medium sized
- Shallots – 1/2 cup
- Green Chillies – 2 slitted
- Grated Coconut – 2 tbsp
- Buttermilk – 1/4 cup
- Salt – to taste
- To Temper:
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Urad Dal – 1/2 tsp
- Chana dal -1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves – a small sprig
Directions
- Step 1 Take Banana Stem (vazhathandu) & Remove the outer ring.
- Step 2 Slice it like a round disks and remove the fiber and discard them.
- Step 3 Finley chop it.Keep them immersed in buttermilk. Set Aside.
- Step 4 Drain buttermilk from the veggie and keep it ready. Boil the water and add salt & chopped Banana Stem (vazhathandu)
- Step 5 Cook for 10 minutes till the veggie turns soft then drain the water.
- Step 6 Take the pan & heat the oil
- Step 7 Add mustrad seed and let it splutter
- Step 8 Add urad dal,chana dal and saute well
- Step 9 Add chopped Shallots
- Step 10 Add green chilli & curry leaves and saute well
- Step 11 Add salt and Saute well
- Step 12 Add cooked Banana Stem (vazhathandu) and saute for an minute.
- Step 13 Add grated coconut and saute well
- Step 14 Serve hot with Rice, Spicy kulambu & rasam.
