Medu Vada is a famous south Indian side dish for breakfast. Medu vada is made with Urad Dal which is rich in fibre and it’s known for digestion. It is also good for diabetes. In South Indian restaurants, It will be always served with Pongal (Ven Pongal) and Idli People also love to have medu vada with coconut chutney.

Ingredients
- Urad dal / Ulutham paruppu (no skin variety) – 1 cup
- Raw rice - 1 tbsp
- Green chillies –3 chopped
- Onion – 1 cup finely chopped
- Curry leaves – few finely chopped
- Coriander leaves - 1/2 cup finely chopped
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Pepper – 1/2 tsp crushed
- Salt – to taste
- Water – as required
Directions
- Step 1 Add whole urad dal
- Step 2 Add raw rice
- Step 3 Add water and soak it for 3 hours
- Step 4 Take mixer jar and add urad dal mix
- Step 5 Add chopped green chilli
- Step 6 Add chopped ginger
- Step 7 Grind it well in smooth paste (The batter should be thick and fluffy like idli/medu vada batter)
- Step 8 Add crushed pepper
- Step 9 Add jeera
- Step 10 Add salt to taste
- Step 11 Add finely chopped curry leaves
- Step 12 Add finely chopped coriander leaves
- Step 13 Add chopped onion and mix it well. keep it aside
- Step 14 Take a kadai and heat oil. Wet your hands with enough water and take a small ball sized dough and make it round. Make a hole at the centre of the dough
- Step 15 Drop the vada in oil and deep fry it medium flame.
- Step 16 Fry on both sides till it turns to golden brown and crisp.
- Step 17 Serve it hot medu vada with chutney or sambar of your choice.
