The dish originated in the late 1850s as a fast lunchtime dish for textile mill workers in Mumbai. Pav means Bread in Marathi and bhaji means any cooked vegetables or curry. This dish quickly spread among the restaurants within Mumbai. In the 21st century, pav bhaji crossed cultural and geographical boundaries and is now loved by people all over India. Ingredients
- Butter - 2tbsp
- Tomato - 3 ,chopped
- Peas / matar-¼ cup
- Potato-1, boiled & mashed
- Salt - to taste
- Kashmiri red chilli powder -1 tsp Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
- Pav bhaji masala -1 tbsp
- Kasuri methi(dry fenugreek leaves)-1 tsp
- Coriander leaves -2 tbsp
- Ginger garlic paste-1 tsp
- capsicum-½ , finely chopped
- Onion-1, finely chopped
- Lemon juice -1 tsp
- Red food colour-3 drops,optional
- Water -1 cup
- To Toast Pav:
- Pav (bread roll)-3
- Butter -1tbsp
- Kashmiri red chili powder -¼ tsp
- Pav bhaji masala -½ tsp
- Coriander leaves-1 tsp, finely choppe
Directions
- Step 1 Take a pan and add butter
- Step 2 Add caroot
- Step 3 Add beans
- Step 4 Add peas
- Step 5 Add boiled and mashed potato
- Step 6 Add salt to taste and saute it well
- Step 7 Add water and mix it well
- Step 8 Cover and boil for 10 minutes
- Step 9 Once’s its done and mash it well.Keep it aside
- Step 10 Take a large Kadai and add butter
- Step 11 Add jeera
- Step 12 Add onion and saute it well
- Step 13 Add ginger garlic paste
- Step 14 Add green chili
- Step 15 Add capsicum
- Step 16 Add chopped coriander leaves and saute it for a minute
- Step 17 add turmeric powder
- Step 18 Add red chili powder
- Step 19 Add pav bhaji masala, Kasuri methi and saute it well
- Step 20 Add red food color and saute it well. (Optional)
- Step 21 Add boiled and mashed vegetable mixture and saute it well
- Step 22 Add water and mix it well
- Step 23 Add lemon juice and mash it well.
- Step 24 Take a Tawa and add butter
- Step 25 Add chili powder
- Step 26 Add pav bhaji masala
- Step 27 Add coriander leaves and saute it well
- Step 28 Add slit pav and roast with spiced butter
- Step 29 Roast both sides of pav until its turn slightly golden
- Step 30 Serve pav bhaji with onions, coriander, lemon and dollop of butter..

1. Take a pan and add butter

2. Add carrot

3. Add beans

4. Add peas

5. Add boiled and mashed potato

6. Add tomato and salt and saute it well

7. Add water and mix it well

8. Cover and boil for 10 minutes.Once it’s done and mash it well. Keep it aside

9. Take a large Kadai and add butter

11. Add onion and saute it well

12. Add ginger-garlic paste

13. Add green chili

14. Add capsicum

15. Add chopped coriander leaves and saute it for a minute

16. Add turmeric powder

17. Add red chili powder

18. Add pav bhaji masala, Kasuri methi , salt and saute it well

19. Add red food color and saute it well.(Optional)

20. Add boiled and mashed vegetable mixture and saute it well

21. Add water and mix it well

22. Add lemon juice and mash it well.

23. Take a Tawa and add butter

24. Add chili powder

25. Add pav bhaji masala

26. Add coriander leaves and saute it well

27. Add slit pav and roast with spiced butter

28. Roast both sides of pav until its turn slightly golden

29. Serve pav bhaji with onions, coriander, lemon, and a dollop of butter.
