How to make Hotel Style Sambar – South Indian Sambar Recipe preparation with step by step photos and a quick video. Sambar is very common south Indian cuisine. Sambar is mostly used as a side dish for idly, dosa and rice. In this recipe, I have used homemade masala paste which offers hotel-style flavour. Unlike normal sambar, in this recipe, I have used freshly grated coconut which adds unique flavour to it. I would recommend giving a try if you bored with making the normal sambar at home.

How to make Hotel Style Sambar - South Indian Sambar Receipe
Ingredients
- For Sambar Masala Paste :
- Oil -1 tsp
- Coriander seeds -2 tbsp
- Chana dal -2 tbsp
- Jeera(Cumin) - 1 tsp
- Fenugreek seeds - ¼ th tsp
- Pepper -½ tsp
- Dried red chilli -10
- Coconut - ¼ th cup grated
- For Hotel Sambar:
- Oil -2 tbsp
- Mustard-1 tsp
- few curry leaves
- Small onion -¼ th cup
- Toor dal - 1 cup
- Curry leaves -few
- Brinjal(baingan / eggplant) - 2 chopped
- Radish (mullangi / muli) - 1 chopped
- Drumsticks- 1 chopped
- Tomato - 1 chopped
- Salt - to taste
- Tamarind extract -¼ th cup
- Coriander-1 tbsp finely chopped
Directions
- Step 1 Heat a pressure cooker and add toor dal
- Step 2 Add two cups of water
- Step 3 Add turmeric powder and Cover the lid and pressure cook in medium flame for 2 whistles.
- Step 4 Take a pan and add oil
- Step 5 Add dried red chilli and saute it well
- Step 6 Add chana dal
- Step 7 Add urad dal and roast in low flame
- Step 8 Add coriander seeds
- Step 9 Add jeera
- Step 10 Add pepper
- Step 11 Add fenugreek seed(methi seed) and saute it well.
- Step 12 Add Hing (Asafoetida) and saute it well
- Step 13 Add garlic and saute it well
- Step 14 Add grated coconut and saute it for few minutes
- Step 15 Once its cooldown, grind it as smooth paste and keep it aside.
- Step 16 Take a pan and add oil.
- Step 17 Add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
- Step 18 Add onion and saute it well.
- Step 19 Add curry leaves and saute it well
- Step 20 Add chopped tomato and saute it well
- Step 21 Add chopped drumsticks
- Step 22 Add brinjal(baingan/eggplant)
- Step 23 Add radish (mullangi / muli) and saute it well
- Step 24 Add the prepared masala paste and saute it well
- Step 25 Add required water and cover the lid. Cook for 10 minutes.
- Step 26 Add Add Tamarind extract and mix it well
- Step 27 Add salt and mix it well.
- Step 28 Add cooked toor dal and mix it well
- Step 29 Cook for 5 minutes
- Step 30 add coriander leaves and mix it well
- Step 31 Serve it with Rice or dosa /idly.

24. Add cooked toor dal and mix it well
25. Cook for 5 minutes
26. Add coriander leaves and mix it well
27. Serve it with Rice or dosa /idly.
