Pakoda is the most common snack in south Indian states but called with different names. In Tamilnadu, its called as Vengaya Pakoda. This would be a wonderful evening snack during the rainy session. Pakoda’s crispiness, very mild spice will make this snack for everyone including kids. Do not add too much water while making the dough. Otherwise, it will become soggy and consume more oil.

Ingredients
- Onions - 1 cup
- Gram Flour /(Chickpea Flour / besan / kadalai maavu)-½ cup
- Rice flour-¼ cup
- Red chilli powder -½ tsp
- Fennel seeds-½ tsp
- Mint leaves(loosely packed)-1tbsp (Optional)
- Curry leaves-a small sprig
- salt - to taste
- Oil - 1tbsp
- Asafoetida (hing) - ¼ tsp
- Oil - For deep fry
Directions
- Step 1 Take a mixing bowl and add chopped onion
- Step 2 Add green chilli
- Step 3 Add chopped curry leaves
- Step 4 Add mint leaves (Optional)
- Step 5 Add fennel seeds
- Step 6 Add red chilli powder
- Step 7 Add asafoetida (hing)
- Step 8 Add salt
- Step 9 Add oil
- Step 10 Add besan flour
- Step 11 Add rice flour
- Step 12 Add little water and mix well to form a thickish mixture.
- Step 13 Heat the oil in a Kadai and take a ball sized pakoda dough and drop in hot oil. Do not overcrowd. Deep fry in low medium flame.
- Step 14 Deep fry till golden brown.
- Step 15 Drain on kitchen paper and serve onion pakoda with chai to make an enjoyable evening.
