Chicken Biryani can be prepared in different methods with different ingredients. Here we are gonna see how to make a chicken Biryani in kongunadu style using Basmati rice. In this method , we will be using less ingredients and it’s very easy to prepare in quick time. Someone who is trying to make this for first time might feel little difficulty but there after they might feel very easy. Let’s see the step by step method of making mouthwatering Chicken Biryani. This recipe with chicken pieces and Indian spices makes it perfect one pot meal.
Kongunadu Chicken Biryani
Kongunadu style Chicken Biryani using Basmati Rice.
Ingredients
- Basmati Rice – 1 cup
- Chicken – 1/2 kg
- Onion – 1 big chopped lengthwise
- Tomato 1 small sized chopped roughly
- Ginger-Garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
- Mint leaves – 15 leaves loosely packed
- Green Chilies – 2
- Garam Masala powder – 1/2 tsp
- Red Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Curd – 1 tbsp
- Water – 1 1/2 cup
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Ghee – 2 tbsp
- Salt – to taste
- To Temper:
- Cloves – 3
- Cardamom -2
- Cinnamon – 1 inch piece
- Bay leaf -1
- Star Anis -1
- Mace-1
- Stone flower-1
Directions
- Step 1 Take thick bottom pan and add oil & ghee.
- Step 2 Add the whole spices then add sliced onion & saute till its golden brown.
- Step 3 Add ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute.
- Step 4 Add garam masla powder and saute for a few minutes.
- Step 5 Once raw smell goes out then add coiander and mint leaves & saute for a minute.
- Step 6 Add chopped tomatos and add salt, chilli powder and saute for a few minute .
- Step 7 Once tomatos and masala are soft and mushy then add curd mix it well.
- Step 8 Add chicken pieces and saute for 2mins.
- Step 9 Cover the lid and boil for 10minutes
- Step 10 Add basmati rice (soaked for 30 minutes) and mix gently without breaking the rice.
- Step 11 Add 1 1/2 cup water and mix gently. Cover the lid cook for 20 minutes on low flame.
- Step 12 Fluff it with a fork carefully without breaking the rice. Serve hot with onion raita.

12. Cover the lid cook for 20 minutes on low flame.
13. Fluff it with a fork carefully without breaking the rice. Serve it hot with Onion Raita.
Notes :
- If you want more specie , add chili powder accordingly.
- If you don’t like Basmati rice, you could use Jeera Samba Rice but adjust the water level accordingly.
