Dhal Rice Recipe (Arisi Paruppu Sadam) is a one-pot recipe. Very often we will be wondering what to cook for lunch or dinner. Finally, we ran out of time and decided to make a simple dish. That’s where we will be choosing such a one-pot recipe (LOL). We have seen that this dish is very common in Coimbatore and nearby areas. It’s protein-rich and kids would love to have (with ghee) if we make it in light spice.

Ingredients
- Rice – 1 cup
- Toor Dhal – 1/4 cup
- Small Onion – 1 cup
- Red chilli -2
- Green chilli -2
- Tomato – 1
- Garlic – 3
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Water – 2 cups
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 th tsp
- Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp
- Salt – to taste
- To Temper:
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Mustard – 1/2 tsp
Directions
- Step 1 Take one cup of rice and half a cup of toor dal. Add water and soak it for 15 mins. Once it’s soaked, rinse it well and keep it aside.
- Step 2 Heat a pressure cooker and add oil.
- Step 3 Add mustard seeds
- Step 4 Add small onion and saute well
- Step 5 Add green chilli and red chilli
- Step 6 Add few curry leaves
- Step 7 Add chopped tomato and saute well
- Step 8 Add turmeric powder
- Step 9 Add two cups of water bring to boil
- Step 10 Add crushed garlic
- Step 11 Add jeera
- Step 12 Add soaked rice & dal mixer
- Step 13 Cover the lid and pressure cook in medium flame for 3 whistles
- Step 14 Give a quick stir.
- Step 15 Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
- Step 16 You can serve it with any vadams or any poriyal / varuval as per your choice …
