Channa dal is a very beneficial pulse among dal variants. We mostly use channa dal for tampering to prepare other dishes. In this recipe, channa dal is the main ingredient along with coconut. Channa dal Chutney /Spicy Coconut Thogayal
Channa dal Chutney /Spicy Coconut Thogayal preparation with step by step photos and a quick video.
Ingredients
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Channa dal /kadalai paruppu -3 tbsp
- Garlic -6 Cloves
- Tamarind -small piece
- Red chilli-5
- Shredded coconut -1 cup
- Salt - to taste
- Asafoetida(Hing)- ¼ tsp
Directions
- Step 1 Take a pan and add oil.
- Step 2 Add Channa dal /kadalai paruppu.
- Step 3 Add urad dal. Saute it well in low flame until turns to light brown.
- Step 4 Add the dried red chillies and saute it well. (Make sure the red chillies don’t burn).
- Step 5 Add Asafoetida(Hing) and saute it well.
- Step 6 Add garlic and saute it well.
- Step 7 Add curry leaves and saute it well.
- Step 8 Add shredded coconut and saute it well.
- Step 9 Add Tamarind and saute it well.
- Step 10 Transfer to the blender.
- Step 11 Add salt to taste
- Step 12 Blend to a coarse paste. Make it very thick.
- Step 13 Serve Channa dal Chutney/ Spicy Thengai Thogayal along with Hot rice/variety rice.
