You must try Kerala fish curry in mudpot to get the authentic flavor. I am the biggest fan for Kerala type fish curries. Because Malabar tamarind and coconut milk make the curry mild and creamy. Malabar Tamarind is very unique which offers sweet sourness and smoky flavor. Coconut milk in other hands which adds a creamy texture to the recipe. In this recipe, I have used Roghu fish. We cherished this curry with a plate of Kerala boiled rice. The curry should be rested for some time to help the flavors to settle.

Kerala Fish Curry | Coconut Milk Fish Curry | Kudampuli Fish Curry preparation with step by step photos and a quick video.
Ingredients
- Fish(Rohu)- ½ kg
- Big onion - 1 chopped
- Ginger garlic -1 tbsp crushed
- Curry leaves - few
- Green chilies - 3 slit lengthwise
- Red chili powder -1 tbsp
- Coriander powder -1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder -1 tsp
- Tamarind (Kodampuli) - 4 pieces
- Medium thin coconut milk -2 cups
- Thick coconut milk- 1 cup
- Coconut oil -2 tbsp
- Salt -to taste
- Tempering :
- Curry leaves -few
- Small onion - 10 chopped
- Coconut oil -1 tbsp
- Red chilli - 1
- Red chili powder - ½ tsp
- Turmeric powder -½ tsp
Directions
- Step 1 Take a mudpot and add coconut oil
- Step 2 Add chopped onion
- Step 3 Add Green chilies
- Step 4 Add crushed ginger and garlic
- Step 5 Add curry leaves and saute it for a minutes
- Step 6 Add turmeric powder
- Step 7 Add Coriander powder
- Step 8 Add Red chili powder
- Step 9 Add salt and saute it well .Once’s raw smell leaves
- Step 10 Add soaked Kodampuli
- Step 11 Add cleaned fish
- Step 12 Add thin coconut milk and mix gently
- Step 13 Cover the lid and cook on low flame for 10 minutes or till the fish gets cooked.
- Step 14 Add thick coconut milk and mix it gently. Cook it for just a minute
- Step 15 Take a tadka pan and add coconut oil
- Step 16 Add red chilli
- Step 17 Add small onion
- Step 18 Add curry leaves and saute it well
- Step 19 Add turmeric powder
- Step 20 Add Red chili powder and saute it well
- Step 21 Pour the tempering into the fish curry and mix it well
- Step 22 Serve delicious Kerala fish curry with hot boiled rice.

1. Take a mud pot and add coconut oil

18. Add small onion and saute it well

20. Add Red chili powder and saute it well
21. Pour the tempering into the fish curry and mix it well
21. Serve delicious Kerala fish curry with hot boiled rice.
