Banana Bajji | vazhakkai bajji is one of the most famous evening snacks in the southern part of India. In the monsoon season, people prefer to have these kinds of fried snacks along with the Tea or Coffee. This is a hotel-style variant of Banana Bajji | vazhakkai bajji. In this recipe, I have used just besan flour along with rice and toor dal batter. Rice batter helps to attain crispiness. The leftover batter can be used for preparing aloo or onions bajji. Do not deep fry these fritters in a low or high flame. Keep in medium flame to get the crispy banana bajji | vazhakkai bajji |aratikaya bajji. Serve it with coconut chutney to enjoy evening time.

Banana bajji recipe |Vazhakkai bajji | balekai bajji preparation with step by step photos and a quick video.
Ingredients
- Raw plantain (raw banana) -1
- Besan (gram flour) - 1 cup
- Toor dal - 1 tsp
- Raw rice -2 tbsp
- Red chilli -3
- Hing (asafoetida) - ¼ tsp
- Salt - to taste
- Water -½ cup
- Baking soda - ¼ tsp
- Oil for deep fry
Directions
- Step 1 Take a bowl and add toor dal.
- Step 2 Add rinsed raw rice
- Step 3 Add hing ( asafoetida)
- Step 4 Add red chili
- Step 5 Add water and soak it for 30 minutes.
- Step 6 Transfer the soaked dal& rice mix to a blender and blend to a fine paste. Keep it aside
- Step 7 In a mixing bowl, add besan flour
- Step 8 Add baking soda
- Step 9 add salt to taste
- Step 10 Add dal& rice mix batter
- Step 11 Add water. (Add water little by little to form a thick batter)
- Step 12 Make it to a thick paste without any lumps and keep it aside.
- Step 13 Peel off the raw banana’s edges.
- Step 14 Slice them using a slicer. Don’t make the slices very thick. If it’s thick, it will not get cooked.
- Step 15 Dip each banana slice in the batter, turn to coat well on both sides.
- Step 16 Slowly drop into hot oil and deep fry in medium flame. (High flame will burn the batter and low flame would consume more oil)
- Step 17 Turn over frying banana bajji to cook well on both sides until it becomes golden brown.
- Step 18 Drain it in tissue paper.
- Step 19 Serve the hot banana bajjis with coconut chutney & masala chai. yummy combo
