It’s made using moong dal (a lentil) and flavored with ghee, saffron(optional), nuts, and cardamom. Halwa – the most common Indian dessert which is made in every household. Even I have posted Udupi’s special Kasi halwa and halwa. Moong dal halwa is a little different from the traditional halwa which use to be a little gelly. If you do not use enough ghee, it will become a little hard. This halwa is decadent and delicious! It’s mouth melting texture, unique aroma and taste are what makes this so special.

Moong dal halwa | Moong dal halwa easy recipe preparation with step by step photos and a quick video.
Ingredients
- Moong Dal(without skin) – ½ cup
- Ghee – ½ cup
- Semolina/Sooji – 1tbsp
- Besan – 1 tbsp
- Sugar – ½ cup
- Water – ½ cup
- Cardamom powder – ½ tsp
- Pista – 1 tbsp, chopped
- Almonds – 1 tbsp, chopped
Directions
- Step 1 Take a bowl and add moong dal
- Step 2 Add water
- Step 3 Soak it for 2 hours
- Step 4 Drain the excess water and wash it well.
- Step 5 Transfer it to a grinding jar, grind into a coarse paste no need of adding water.
- Step 6 Take a pan and add sugar
- Step 7 add water and mix it well until sugar dissolve
- Step 8 Bring to boil for 2 -3 minutes
- Step 9 Add cardamom powder and mix it well. Keep it aside
- Step 10 Take another pan or wok on medium heat and add ghee
- Step 11 Add besan
- Step 12 Add Rava and roast it for few minutes (addition of besan and Rava gives a good texture and reduces lumps)
- Step 13 Add the coarsely ground moong dal and mix it well in low flame.stir it continuously
- Step 14 Break the crumbled moong dal and fry until turn golden brown
- Step 15 Add the flavored sugar syrup and mix and stir continuously and the ghee separates
- Step 16 Add chopped Pista
- Step 17 Add chopped almonds and mix it well
- Step 18 Moong dal ka halwa is ready to be served, garnish it with little few nuts and serve warm.

1. Take a bowl and add moong dal
2. Add water
3. Soak it for 2 hours
