Fish cutlet | How To Make Fish Cutlet | Crispy fish cutlet preparation with step-by-step photos and a quick video. Fish cutlet is simply sensational. It also called Indian fish cakes. The crispy fish cutlets are made with fish, veggies, and spices are coated in egg and breadcrumbs and deep-fried to golden perfection. This appetizer taste differs based on the type of fish which you choose. I have used vela fish but I am sure that Sheela, vanjaram, kingfish, salmon, and Bluefin trevally (paarai) also taste great since they have fewer bones in them. This fish cutlet is crisp on the outside, spicy and juicy inside. Serve this appetizer with a side of simple onion salad which is more than sufficient to make your evening sensational.

Fish cutlet | How To Make Fish Cutlet | Crispy fish cutlet preparation with step-by-step photos and a quick video.
Ingredients
- Fish- ½ kg
- Potato -1 Cup boiled and mashed potato
- Onion -½ cup (chopped)
- Green chilies - 2
- Ginger garlic paste -1 tsp
- Oil-2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
- Pepper powder - ½ tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Garam masala powder-½ tsp
- Finely chopped coriander- 2 tbsp
- Salt - to taste
- Egg - 2 ,beaten
- Panko bread crumbs - 1 cup
- Sunflower / vegetable oil - 500 ml
Directions
- Step 1 Take a pan and add cleaned fish
- Step 2 Add salt
- Step 3 Add turmeric powder and mix it well
- Step 4 Add water
- Step 5 Cover the lid and cook for 5 minutes or until the fish gets tender
- Step 6 Once it gets cool down shreds the fish into small pieces with the help of your hand.Keep it aside
- Step 7 Heat the pan and add oil
- Step 8 add onion and saute it well until the onions are soft.
- Step 9 Add ginger garlic paste and saute it well
- Step 10 Add green chili and saute it well
- Step 11 Add red chili powder
- Step 12 Add coriander powder
- Step 13 Add garam masala powder
- Step 14 Add pepper powder
- Step 15 Add salt to taste and mix it well
- Step 16 Add shredded fish and mix it well
- Step 17 Add coriander leaves and saute for a minute.
- Step 18 Remove from heat and let it cool down completely
- Step 19 Add in the mashed potatoes and mix it well
- Step 20 Take 2 tablespoons of the fish mixture and make small patties. Press them in between the palm and make them into a firm patty. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
- Step 21 Refrigerate them for 30 minutes
- Step 22 Take two bowls. Fill one with the beaten egg and the other with bread crumbs.
- Step 23 Dip the patties in the eggs
- Step 24 Then roll them in the bread crumbs. (At this stage, the patties can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and fried when necessary. The patties may also be frozen at this stage for up to a month)
- Step 25 Heat the oil gently place the patties in hot oil and fry them till golden.
- Step 26 Fish Cutlets are ready to be served!
